


Baseball

Vito Mastrangelo
Vito attended Bishop Fenwick High
School (1985 grad) where he was named Most Valuable Player of the team his
senior year after helping to lead the Crusaders to a State Finals berth. He
went on to attend North Adams State College (MA) and as a pitcher helped
lead the squad to a 1987 D-III NCAA Tournament appearance. Vito served as
Assistant Coach at Bishop Fenwick for 6 years including the 2004 State
Champion team. He has operated hitting and pitching clinics in the New
England area for many years and is highly recommended for all ages and skill
levels.
Brian Lentz
Brian was a 3 year starter (2
time captain) and All-Conference catcher at St. John’s Prep where he
amassed multiple awards including 1997 Boston Globe D-I Player of the
Year. He was also named 2 Time Boston Globe All-Scholastic and 2 Time
Boston Herald All-Scholastic during this time at St. John’s Prep. Brian
attended Harvard University where he was a 3 year starter on the baseball
team and was named 1st Team All-Ivy League catcher twice. In
2003, he was named to the All-New England team. Following his college
career, Brian was signed by the Seattle Mariners where he spent 3 seasons
in their minor league system. In addition to his exploits as an exceptional
baseball player Brian brings 13 years of coaching and instructing
experience to the Strike One staff.
Nelson Castro
Nelson was signed by the California Angels in 1994 at the age of 18 out of
the Dominican Republic beginning his 15 year professional career. He spent
5 seasons in the California/Anaheim minor league system before signing with
the San Francisco Giants in 2000. During his stint with San Francisco
Nelson was promoted to Triple-A and was added to the 40 man roster.
Following his time in the Giants system he also played in the minor leagues
for LA Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox. In 2006, Nelson
signed with the Calgary Vipers of the Northern/Golden league where he led
the team to their first League Championship in 2009 while batting a team
record .410 for the regular season and was named Golden League MVP.
Nelson brings 15 years of professional playing experience and a vast
knowledge of baseball instruction to the Strike One staff.



Softball

Colleen Newbury
Colleen attended Bishop Fenwick High School from 1992-95 where she was a
key member of legendary coach Ed Henry’s teams collecting 4 state
championships during her time at the school (92-7 record during her 4
years at BFHS). She was also named 1st Team All-American as a
shortstop while at BFHS. Colleen went on to attend Salem State College
where her .616 batting average led the nation in 1998. She was named 1st
Team All-Conference and 1st Team All-American in 1997 and 1998
while at Salem State. Colleen has served as Varsity Softball Coach at St.
Mary’s of Lynn the past 10 years and her teams have qualified for the
State tournament every season including collecting back to back D-III State
Championships in 2009 & 2010. Her teams have won the D-III North Title 4 times
and 2 of her players have been named D-III Players of the Year.
Lorin Slade Buksa
Lorin attended Bishop Fenwick High School from 1990-93 where she helped
lead the team to four consecutive MA state titles under the direction of
legendary softball coach Ed "Bud" Henry. In 1993 she was elected
captain of the softball team and named Bishop Fenwick and Catholic Central
League MVP as a first baseman and pitcher. Lorin took her softball
talents to the University of North Carolina (1994-97) and was a four year
starter on the Tar Heels softball team as well as team captain her senior
season. She was named 1st Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference and
All-Southeast Region in 1997 as a first baseman. In 1997, on the
night of her college graduation, Lorin played in her first professional
softball game as a first baseman for the Durham Dragons (Women's
Professional Softball League). In 2004, Lorin was inducted into the
Bishop Fenwick Hall of Fame for her accomplishments on and off the field.
